FAQs:

What is a cover band?

A cover band is a music group that plays versions of songs by other artists, rather than original material. Playing covers of popular songs in a band is a great way to improve your individual skills while learning to collaborate in a group.

Are there band classes for adults?

Yes! Playing in a band isn't something that's just for kids, teens, or those who've been at it for years. At Boston Drum Lessons, we offer group music classes like Pop & Rock Band that allow budding musicians in Greater Boston to connect with one other and discover the joy of musical collaboration.

How do you put together a cover band?

It's common for cover bands to be formed by a group of friends or acquaintances who all share an interest in music. What's important is to make sure that your music group has a good variety of instruments represented. Our band program includes drums, bass, keys, guitar, and voice. When you sign up for our Pop & Rock Band program, we'll help you form a cover band and work alongside you to develop your set list.

Is there an age limit for Pop & Rock Band?

There is no age limit but students need to be 18+ for our adult band.

Are there experience requirements for Pop & Rock Band?

We require a minimum of six months playing experience for our Pop & Rock Band program to ensure that students have a solid foundation to work off of and are at an appropriate skill level to play with others. If you don't have enough experience yet, no worries! We offer private piano, drums, bass, guitar, and singing lessons in Boston, so we can get you up to speed for the next time our group music classes come around.

What instruments are included in Pop & Rock Band?

Our cover bands consist of five key instrumentations: vocals, keyboard, drums, bass, and guitar.

Where does the final performance take place?

The final performance takes place at The Record Co. in Dorchester, MA.

How many people are in each cover band?

Our cover bands typically consist of 4-5 people, ensuring that keyboard, bass, drums, guitar, and vocals are represented. Having this range will allow your band to play a variety of songs from our curated set list. That said, students can choose to play more than one instrument depending on the band arrangement.

Do you provide the instruments or do I need to bring my own?

We provide drums, keyboards, amps, PA, microphones, and cables. Students are expected to bring their own guitars, basses, drum sticks, hearing protection, and some back up cables if needed.

What will the band instructor teach during sessions?

The program is structured to include active playing sessions and a lecture series. Your instructor will present techniques and best practice for how to play in an ensemble. Additionally, we will take you through a progression starting from reading charts, to lead sheets, to composing and improvising your own parts!

Will there be individual lessons in addition to group rehearsals?

You're more than welcome to take private music lessons in addition to our group music classes. The more immersed you are in music, the quicker you'll develop.

What happens if I miss a rehearsal?

There are no refunds or credits for missed rehearsals. But, if a student in another class on your instrument misses a week you will have the opportunity to sub for them. Sharing is caring!
