About
Learning to create music is a process of studying your tools and developing your natural, innate creativity. The good news is anyone is capable of producing music!
A Beautiful Noise is a two day workshop focused on giving adult beginner music producers a foundation in creating music using technology. By exploring fundamental techniques of the music making process in a collaborative, supportive, and exploratory environment, our goal is to leave you with the confidence and comfort to develop a deeper connection to sound, capture your ideas and become more fluent at express yourself musically.
This class will explore:
Sequencing audio into musical phrases
Making and recording audio samples
Synthesizing our own sounds from scratch
Making drum beats
Creating melodies and chord progressions
Creative ways to generate musical ideas
Building creative focus
How to get your ideas out quickly
FLIP
All students will use the ios and Android app FLIP as the primary music making tool during the course of this workshop.
Flip is a phone and tablet sampler designed by Youtuber Andrew Huang to help you be fast in your production process.
Music ideas sometimes arise as waves and it can be challenging to capture them when they spark.
With FLIP, you’ll be able to create faster and never miss an idea that bubbles up again.
Instructors
Kyle Harris and Ben Levin are long time musical collaborators who have spent years working together on albums, songs, performances, and creative writing projects.
Ben is a successful multi-instrumentalist, composer/Producer, visual artist, and has been running a successful YouTube channel since 2010. He specializes in helping people continue enjoying music while they continue to reach their goals through online courses on Ben Levin Music School.
Kyle is the founder of Boston Drum Lessons, a performer with the Blue Man Group and a music producer specializing in creative uses of technology and sound design. He aims to help people build technical skills to make their personal music making process more flexible and enjoyable.

Meets for two 4-hour sessions on Saturday 11/18 and Sunday 11/19.
Times: 11am-3pm.
Location: The Record Co.
There is free parking at The Record Co.
Only 10 spots available.
Low 5:1 student to teacher ratio.
Students are expected to own a smart phone or tablet and purchase the FLIP app on the App Store or Google Play.
All other gear will be provided.
